Nathan Chen electrified the crowd at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. The most dominant force in men’s figure skating competition once again proved why he is the best in the world.
The 22-year-old became the second American to win the men’s singles gold in 30 years. The Olympic announcers compared him to legends like Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, and Michael Jordan.
Just four years earlier, he faced disappointment. In PyeongChang, he placed fourth in the team event’s short program and 17th in the singles competition’s short program. Nathan put all of that behind him, scoring 332.60 points in the free skate.
He performed to remixed versions of Elton John’s famous hits, ‘Rocket Man,’ Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,’ and ‘Bennie and the Jets.’ The majority of jumps and axels accorded during the excitement of ‘Rocket Man.’
Even Elton John noticed the fantastic talent displayed when he tweeted, ‘Congratulations @nathanwchen for winning Gold skating to Rocket Man in the free skate finals in Beijing.’
After finishing 5th previously, Nathan has been consistently winning the men’s figure skating competitions on his path to redemption. Most commentators acknowledge that he is the best in the world.
